Reconstitution & Storage
Lyophilised peptides remain stable for a long time in dry form. This section summarises how they are stored in the laboratory and brought into solution for experiments – and which accessories are involved.
Storing the lyophilisate
Store unopened vials cool (2–8 °C), dry and protected from light; for longer periods at −20 °C. Avoid temperature fluctuations and humidity – condensation inside the vial is the most common cause of premature loss of quality.
Reconstitution
In a laboratory context, bacteriostatic water (water with 0.9 % benzyl alcohol) is usually used to bring the peptide into solution. The solvent is added slowly along the inner wall of the vial; the lyophilisate dissolves with gentle swirling, not shaking.
Storing the solution
Reconstituted solutions belong in the refrigerator (2–8 °C) and should be used within the period supported by stability data. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
